ANNUAL SPEECH AND PRIZE GIVING CEREMONY
The College hosted its Annual Speech and Prize Giving Ceremony on Friday 30 September 2022. The ceremony was well attended with Government Officials, School Development Committee members, parents and representatives of the College’s various partners among those present.
In his opening remarks the Rector of the College, Father Daka, expressed his gratitude to the parents who had made the journey to come and support their children. He went on to emphasize the importance of having parents involved in their children’s academic formation. Father Daka also had some words of motivation for the learners especially those who are sitting for their exams, encouraging them to aim high and achieve academic excellence.
The guest of honour was one of the college’s former students Mr Mutandiro, who is currently the Managing Director at Global Health Medical Aid Scheme. He is a well accomplished business executive who has held prominent positions in top companies in the corporate world such as NetOne (Acting Chief Executive Officer), Chemco Holdings (Managing Director) and Innscor Africa (Managing Director). Mr Mutandiro emphasized the importance of discipline and hard work in achieving career goals while appreciating the Jesuit education system , adding that the learners were already steps ahead because of the Jesuit education that they were receiving.
The headmaster, Mr Maganga, summarized the College’s achievements over the past year notably the 100% pass rate obtained by the school in its’ first ever participation in the Cambridge Examinations at Ordinary and Advanced Levels. He expressed pride at having attained such excellent academic results while also acknowledging outstanding performances in other extra-curricular activities such as sports.
“The college has supplied the national teams with players in the past few months. This is evidence of the College’s thrust towards the development of the whole person,” he added.
The highlight of the ceremony was when the college honored its award-winning students. Accolades such as shields, trophies, medals, tablets and hampers were awarded to students who had excelled in various disciplines within the school. The school also recognised teachers who had produced outstanding results over the course of the past year.
All in all, the event was a resounding success and the College is grateful to its business partners, the St Ignatius College Alumni and parents who provided sponsorship towards the hosting of the 2022 edition of the Speech and Prize Giving ceremony.
