Sport teaches you character, it teaches  you to play by the rules, it teaches you to know what it feels like to win and lose – it teaches you life.”

Yearly we produce world class athletes. A minimum of two athletes who represent the national team in various sporting disciplines such as hurdles, shot put, hammer throw, tripple jump or flat short distances like 100m, 200m or 400m. We share our brilliance in competitions like CASSA and NASSH.The College flag usually flies very high in the SWIMMING discipline. We are among the top eight teams in the A Division in Zimbabwe where we do rub shoulders with schools like St Georges, Hellenic, Peter House, St John’s (Green Blazer), Falcon and CBC. Though we have not achieved the best, our morale is high. We continue to support the game of intelligence for good health and a better tomorrow.

The Ignatians are well known as The Hill Top Saints in the field of BASKETBALL. We are adequately represented as we have displayed great talent in the previous years. The College participates in the Top Schools competitions, St George’s tournament, CASSA and NASSH competitions.

A game which is complementary to academics, CHESS, is exceptional at The Hill Top as we are very exceptional in it. It is a game of confidence, hard work, dedication, perseverance and most of all, individual brilliance. The College produces international gurus. The College participates in CASSA, NASSH provincial and national competition where no doubt, we have proved to be the best over the years.

History is not made by Kings, presidents nor heroes of our era but the ordinary people doing extra ordinary things like VOLLEYBALL at St Ignatius. The College has been coming out champions in  the NASSH district fight against national raked schools like Visitation. Many sectors of sport in the college will help to create vision through volleyball. Yearly we participate in top ranked national competitions. To cite an example, St Ignatius under 17 boys team has qualified to represent Zimbabwe in Burkina Faso in the past.

In the game of the giants, RUGBY, the hounds are very accurate in their steps. Each and every year the college participates in the COTTCO festival games besides achieving better in our league games. We turn all the granite for bettering our achievements in this sporting discipline.

The Mary Ward girls have the impressive performance in the discipline. The sport is a great favourite at Mary Ward despite the other angle that thinks the game is of last generation. The ladies participate in CASSA and NASSH competitions. The problem is of players’ pool which is so limited. The coaches in netball, volleyball and basketball scramble for the only fifty girls in the college.

Who does not know soccer? Everyone can say no one. It is not soccer unless skills of Etoo’ or Messi to mention a few are displayed. Soccer as a discipline at the college is nourished with young talented players who participate in CASSA, NASSH and TWALUMBA tournaments. Though the hill top lacks the juice to constantly participate in national NASSH events, the discipline is well staffed. The actual results are to be displayed in the near future.

In HANDBALL the college is known for its excellence. The game has been introduced less than a decade ago. It has produced results. Yearly the boys are a threat to other schools at all levels in Mashonaland East province. Special hand share of honour is given to the coaching team and the crop of players in the discipline.

Is it the least? Not at all! HOCKEY has its own history at the college, there is still room for its development in terms of infrastructure. Yes the college participates in a number of games but there is need to engage in proper competitions to improve sporting in this discipline.

It is the long night that never finds the day. In the near future we are to introduce CRICKET.

As you have seen, sport is a deed with a proper name.

Sports teaches you character, it teaches you to play by the rules, it teaches you to know what it feels like to win and lose-it teaches you about life.
